BRIDGES GridBLAST - a parallelized BLAST service using grid computing
The BRIDGES project has released a BLAST service which allows users to run batches of query sequences over a number of grid resources, such as our local Condor pool in the training lab of the National e-Science Centre, and the ScotGRID compute cluster.
The interface to the service is Java based and delivered to the user's machine via the latest version of Java Webstart Technology (shipped with Java 1.4.2). The access point to this is the BRIDGES project grid portal. Anyone can log in to the portal after having signed up, and can then proceed by clicking the "Computational Resources" tab, then the "GridBLAST" tab. Please read the instructions there before using the service. The service will accept locally stored data files in FASTA format as input.
If you are an existing Scotgrid user, please refer to the instructions on how to set up your Scotgrid account so it works with the GridBLAST service.
Please do make sure you contact the BRIDGES team if you experience difficulties with the service. This is an alpha quality test release and there will almost certainly be at least some problems. Your local contact for this is Micha Bayer at the National e-Science Centre in Glasgow (michab@dcs.gla.ac.uk).
