BRIDGES is a UK e-Science project which supports biomedical research using grid technology. It is directly linked to a large
Wellcome Trust biomedical research project, the
Cardiovascular Functional Genomics project (CFG). CFG is aimed at discovering target genes that are linked to hypertension.
Currently BRIDGES offers two visualisation clients which allow the viewing and analysis of data from both public and project sources. SyntenyVista is a tool for the graphical display of genes on chromosomes and their homologues in other species. It also allows the display of Quantitative Trait Loci (QTLs), chromosome regions containing genes which influence the expression of quantitatively varying traits such as hypertension.
MagnaVista is a tool for the integrated textual display of data from the federated data sources. MagnaVista provides a convenient way of viewing all the available data relating to a single gene.
We are making these tools available to the general public through the BRIDGES grid portal at http://europa.nesc.gla.ac.uk:9081/wps/portal. Users have to sign up to the portal and are then free to use the tools. Once logged, please click the tab saying "Visualisation Clients" and then proceed to the tool of your choice. Full documentation for both tools is provided there.
